Comment at the Donnington Show 2005
"Pretty fed up with SOTA Beams. Someone using a SOTA Beam beat me in
the RSGB Backpackers contest and I was using a 13 element yagi"
"I bought one of your beams at the Donnington Show {October 2005} –
in simple it is fantastic. I been testing it all day today and the
results on my 5w hand held radio are just stunning for such a simple
antenna. Well done all and keep up the good work. Best regards Steve
Warren"
"Just felt that I had to drop you a line.
I've been using a 7 ele ZL Special with my FT817 for the 144MHz
Backpackers - and done alright,
thanks for asking!
Last Christmas I bought one of your SOTA beam and pole kits for a
proposed SOTA trip to the Dales
this year. So that I could get used to putting the thing together I
trialled it alongside the 7 ele
ZL in the first Backpackers this year. The 817 has two antenna
sockets, and we get some weak
continental beacons where we do the Backpackers, so like-for-like
testing was quite easy. First
conclusions, given the minute difference between the two antennae -
the ZL being 20ft up as well - was that the ZL couldn't be working
properly. So this weekend we tried the SOTA up against a 9
element Tonna (A tried and tested design, you'll agree!). There was
still barely an S-point in it,
with the Tonna just winning. And as for putting up and taking down the
SOTA beam against the Tonna - don't even ask!
Well done on a brilliant design, which also worked extremely well on
our SOTA expedition to NP-010
and NP-009!
Best 73's,
Neil.

"ALL my reports using this antenna with my
FT-817 have been 59 plus!!This is THE ONLY portable antenna you need
for 2 metre operation - Lee (G4PTX)"
"I just thought
I'd write you a quick note to say how much I like my new SOTA Beam!
I have made
some great contacts using it, including 2 contacts into France on 2m
SSB using 10w from Ringinglow Edge near Sheffield (approx 430m ASL).
It is so easy to
assemble and dismantle and even survived a fall from 4m onto tarmac
when I accidentally let go of the mast while guying it up!
I hope to be able to
use it from a summit in the future, but for now it is a great addition
to my in-car portable station! Thanks for creating such a great
antenna!" Josh M3JMO
"Just a line to say how pleased I am with the performance of
the SOTA Beam.... Its brilliant" Myke G6DDQ
"Well done Richard
and everyone else involved, for a well-engineered design" Kevin
G1HDQ
"Just received my
SOTA 2M beam, and it certainly lived up to the description. Very
lightweight, easy to assemble and well thought out." Dave G0DJA
"must admit it looks good and it's even resonant on 145 Megathings,
according to my antenna analyser..." John G3WGV
"brilliant!" Tom
