What is an ESR Meter?
DISCONTINUED
The Blue ESR meter is an in-circuit capacitor tester.
ESR stands for Equivalent Series Resistance. This parameter is
a particularly critical for capacitors - especially electrolytics.
Take a look at pretty much any electronic circuit and you will see
electrolytic capacitors. They are critical to the function of just
about everything. And yet they are one of the few components that can
degrade severely over time. Electrolytic capacitors contain an
electrolyte (you would never have guessed that right?). They are
sealed during manufacture but even the best seals fail. Once the seal
goes, the electrolyte starts to dry out. As it dries, key parameters
of the capacitor start to change including its ESR. In fact high ESR
is a good indication of a faulty capacitor and can be often be
detected before it fails - causing other more expensive damage.

Inside the Blue
ESR Meter
What does an ESR meter do?
An ESR meter is an "in circuit" tester. Unlike a simple capacitance
meter it can check ESR without having to remove the capacitor. ESR
cannot be measured with an ordinary multi-meter - nor can it be
measured with a capacitance meter. That's why the Blue ESR meter will
save you both time and money! It provides an accurate measurement of a
wide range of ESRs.
Imagine how useful it would be for
restoring that old radio or repairing that TV?

The Blue ESR meter was designed by
Bob Parker
- ESR Guru. The unit is supplied either built or an an enjoyable
"home-build" project.
