The Rucksack Special has come about due to customer demand for a high-performance vertically polarised 2m antenna for activations on the move. It is a full-sized half-wave and comes with a feeder length of approx 2m. this allows the activator to use the aerial with a handy attached to their belt if they wish. Performance is great - far better that can be achieved with a "rubber duck" or radio-mounted quarterwave.

The Rucksack Special has been designed with a short extension so that it fits well into a rucksack with most or all of the radiating part of the aerial above the sack. For easier transport, the Rucksack Special comes in two sections giving a packed length of 1 metre. The Rucksack Special comes as a complete product. It is ready-tuned for 2m and no self-assembly is required. Just unpack it and use.

At the summit, the Rucksack Special can be mounted on a guyed upturned walking pole for a more leisurely activation.

A quality product designed to meet a specific need! Weight 300gm.

Notes:

Users with 5W "handies" are recommended to use the 2.5W power setting with this antenna for safety reasons.

We can make this product to order to work on other radio frequencies (Military, Emergency Services, Mountain Rescue, Ranger Service etc). Call us to discuss. 01625-425700.

"I tried it out last night and am very impressed with the results. If I hadn't have mentioned that I was using my handheld (Yaesu FT60-E), my friends on 2 metres would have thought I was at my base station with the outdoor collinear."

Trevor M3TVN - November 2007

"For the next 30 mins I had a steady stream of callers and received some impressive signal reports. This trip was the first time I had used my new Rucksack Special ....I am well impressed with the aerial when compared to the [rubber duck]. When time is short or the conditions do not permit the erection of the beam then this aerial is well worth the money"

"The tests I did on Helvellyn also included monitoring some of the signals on my FT-60E with rubber duck.. Stations that I was receiving 5-9 on the Rucksack Special were barely audible with the rubber duck. I received several reports of 5-9+15-20dB..."
