"Great Value
for Money!"
That's what our users tells us!
Our beam is supplied as a complete
kit. You get a great performing beam that is optimised for lightweight
portable. It comes with a mounting bracket, mast, feeder system and
guying kit.
We also know that our beams face a
tough life, operating outdoors in all manner of conditions, that's why
we are happy to supply any spare parts you may need - try asking for
spares for competing products and you may well be disappointed.

What's New?
New Band
The first new feature is the addition
of 70cm. Not only do you get a three element 2m beam but you get six
elements on 70cm too! Explore a new band - typical hilltop ranges 150km+ (much
more for summit-to-summit contacts). Like the original SOTAbeam, all the elements fit inside the
boom - yes, 2m and 70cm as well!

New Element Fixing Method
No more O rings, no more end caps! The elements screw into the boom using a unique
screw fix system designed especially for this application. Just twist to
lock the elements in place "so easy it feels like cheating".

New Guying Kit A
four-guy system with new runners and new adjustable collar system.
Easier and faster than ever before.
...but that's not all.
The new manufacturing process has allowed us to
redesign the 2m beam achieving higher gain and a better front to back
ratio than the original SOTA Beam.
We even supply a storage container for the 70cm
elements, in case you want to leave them at home.
Specification
70cm - six elements
Gain 10.4dBi, f/b ratio >18dB.

VSWR <1.6:1 across 70cm band, typically <1.5:1
Designed for a wide bandwidth for satellite and ATV
use.
2m - three elements
2m 8dBi, f/b ratio >13.5dBi.

VSWR <1.5:1 across 2m band, typically <1.3:1
Great for lightweight microwave talkback.

Comparison
Other portable beams used for portable operation may not quite so
portable!
"I've been using
a 7 ele ZL Special with my FT817 for the 144MHz Backpackers - and
done alright, thanks for asking!
Last Christmas I
bought one of your SOTA beam and pole kits for a proposed SOTA trip to
the Dales this year. So that I could get used to putting the
thing together I trialled it alongside the 7 ele ZL in the first
Backpackers this year. The 817 has two antenna sockets, and we get
some weak continental beacons where we do the Backpackers, so
like-for-like testing was quite easy. First conclusions, given the
minute difference between the two antennae - the ZL being 20ft up as
well - was that the ZL couldn't be working properly. So this weekend
we tried the SOTA up against a 9 element Tonna (a tried and tested
design, you'll agree!). There was still barely an S-point in it, with
the Tonna just winning. And as for putting up and taking down the SOTA
beam against the Tonna - don't even ask!"

 | Remember that the full SOTA Beam pack is a complete
product (you get a beam, feeder, mast, mounting brackets and guying kit) -
competing products are not supplied complete! |
 | The SB270 has no wire elements to get
caught on bushes/heather. |
Note - product available in different
forms. The "Full Kit" pack includes
pole, guying kit and feeder.
How big is it?
The SB270 elements pack into the boom giving a
highly-portable antenna, just 1m long*. The mounting brackets provide
a convenient point of attachment for travel. Special soft plastic
end-caps hold the elements safely inside.
*Pole is 1.15m long when collapsed.

The packed SB270 is 1m long
The 2m and 70cm elements store neatly within the boom for travel.

"Many thanks for the rapid despatch - my goodies arrived
safely in the post this morning.
All I can say is I am very impressed with the design, it's
implementation and the documentation.

"I have used the SB270 today on NP-028, Rombalds moor. On the
past two activations from here I have really struggled to work
anybody, today I worked quite a few people! I am very pleased with
the antenna, and it has got me interested in working on 70cms too!
"I have a 144MHz MASPRO 5 element beam ...the performance of
the SB270 is much better in all respects even though it has 2
elements less!"
