AMATEUR RADIO FOR THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Antennas including linked dipoles, telescopic poles also ham radio kits - everything you need.
If you are thinking of leaving your ham shack with your radio, take a look. We can help.
The Palm Pico Paddle continues to set the standard for portable operating. The baby brother of the famous Mini Paddle, the Pico Paddle will be just perfect for the use with the new micro-radios such as those developed by Steve KD1JV.
We supply it with the optional magnetic base that allows it to be attached to your radio. Treat yourself to the best in portable paddles for a lifetime of pleasurable operating. Supplied in rugged carry case with paddle, base and lead.
The new connecting cables for the Pico Paddle are very thin, but robust and flexible. They have a length of 70 cm (2.3 feet) and carry one 2.5 mm (1/10 inch) plug on one end, the other end has a 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) plug for connection to the transceiver or keyer.
KX2/KX3 Mounting Kit
This mounting kit is designed to attach the Pico Paddle in a stable and ergonomically correct way to your Elecraft KX2/KX3. It is mounted to the front with two countersunk screws in the middle of the radio. If the key is not being used, it remains in the "park" position. To operate, the Pico Paddle is simply pushed out of its protective housing and rotated to the desired working position. The angle here is freely selectable. You can align the key to the right, but also set it right to the middle of the KX2/KX3. In the design of the bracket we were also thinking of the left-handed, you can just as easily swing the key to the left side. The Pico Paddle is connected by a highly flexible braided cable with a crimped 4-pin connector and is plugged into the front "Key2" jack of the KX3 - thus no cable in the way. See video below for details.
FT817 Mounting Kit
To attach the Pico Paddle perfectly on FT-817, the Mounting Kit MK-817 can be used. A PP QuickMount (without the anti skid pads) is screwed to an existing thread of the FT-817 with the supplied mounting materials. The Pico Paddle is then mounted "upside down". A suitable tilt stand is indispensable - e.g. we recommend the Palm "Peg Leg". The connection of the paddle uses a thin and highly flexible cablewith the very small "Pico Paddle special plug" (Palm Radio's own miniature 2.5 mm stereo jack) on one side, at the other end there is a 3.5 mm stereo angle plug mounted. The cable runs to the rear at the bottom of the FT-817 and is plugged into the "Key" jack of the radio, this alows comfortable CW operation without a disturbing paddle lead in the way. See video below for details.

I bought the single paddle pic. I love its design, if it had a metal chassis would be almost apple like in its neatness and great design.
I find it really easy to use personally but then it matches my technique well, almost prefer it to my Begali in fact.
Perfect for SOTA

Too Early yet to comment on operation but fitting to KX2 was perfection.
Fantastic service from Richard and Sotabeams, obtaining fixing bracket from Palm In record time over the New year. Super service as always.

I bought this little key to work with my Elecraft KX1 for Portable working.
When you look inside you wonder how is this worth the price paid?
However, it is how it works and integrates with my set up that defines its value.
It is a joy to operate and precisely adjustable with the little Allen Key that is included. When Operating, it has a very nice feel and fits in perfectly with the ethos of working /P.
Fantastic Service yet again from Richard. I would highly recommend The Palm Pico Paddle and Sotabeams.

There are two ways to mount this to the MTR. I stuck the adhesive magnet to the right side of the radio. The mount is magnetic and easily sticks to the magnets. It's easy to take it off when you want. A Dremel tool was used to make a dimple in the plastic so it fits over the screw on the side of the radio.
The other way is to permanently screw the mount to the side of the radio. You will need to get a slightly longer screw to do this. You'll still be able remove the key from the mount, but you won't be able to use it on another radio because you need the mount.

This is an excellent little paddle, perfect for field QRP work. The magnetic base makes it uber convenient to use. It has a great feel, is easily adjustable, and the paddles are protected when not in use by retracting into the body. The convenient storage box is a plus, also, though my key is presently in service all of the time.

Wonderful size. I have a HB1B. The magnetic base holds on the side of it very well. Like the feel and weight. A friend of ours used it and we weren't sure we were going to bring it home. Thank you very much for sending a reverse cable. Thank you so much for your assistance. It's nice to have such a personable communication.

I've been looking for a lightweight, portable iambic paddle for SOTA work for a while now. After shopping around, reading a lot of web sites and talking to folks I decided to go for the Palm Pico paddle and ordered one from SOTA Beams. It turned up less than a week later. Impressive service, UK to VK2 in five days. Well done Richard!
Of course I couldn't wait to try it out, so took it along on a three-Summit expedition on the weekend. I'm very impressed with it. It's very, very small, feather-light, very well made and comfortable to use. I haven't yet tried it at high speed - I kept it down to 18wpm for most QSOs on this outing - but so far it has performed flawlessly with any errors due only to my fumbling. With a bit of tweaking of the contact gaps and spring tension I reckon it will hold its own on QRQ as well. Anyone looking for a neat, compact, portable iambic paddle need look no further IMHO.
