Antenna Centre + 4:1 Balun

AVIAILABLE AS A KIT OR READY-BUILT AND TESTED

A antenna centre with built in 4:1 matching transformer (sometimes refered to as a balun although strictly speaking it's not!).

  • Feeder strain-relief built in
  • BNC socket
  • Water-resistant construction
  • Antenna wire strain-relief built in
  • Fixing for centre support
  • Lightweight 88g (3.1 oz.)
  • High performance by design - flat from 3-30MHz
  • Loss < 0.2dB @ 14MHz
  • Matched VSWR < 1.50:1 0.5-60MHz
  • Matched VSWR < 1.15:1 1.8-30MHz
  • 125 Watt power rating

Also useful for pre-matching higher impedance antenna systems such as doublets to bring the VSWR into the matching range of internal antenna tuners. In this application the length of feeder between the transformer and the tuner must be short (certainly no more than a couple of metres - 6 feet).

Note: the transformer is designed with a lip that can be sealed using a silicone sealant if required for use in more permanent installations. We do not supply the balun sealed as this allows users to gain access to the enclosure.

    as above

Whilst the assembly instructions are not quite up to ‘Heathkit standard’, any questions raised by the text were answered by reference to the illustrations. I did not like the nickel plated solder tags fitted to the terminal posts and BNC socket. Nickel plate is a challenge to solder satisfactorily. Anyway, I was pleased with the overall result and found that when tested per the instructions a 1:1 SWR was returned.

    4:1 is good for 160 to 10

    Posted by va3ol on 26th Jun 2015

It took me an hour to build the 4:1 balun and I actually read the instructions. Easy kit and My antenna analyzer says it is 1:1 from 160 to 10 with a 200 ohm load. Now about the buying experience here. I ordered May 29th and it arrived June 25. Considering that I chose economy (low price) shipping this is good. My order included other items and I think the quality of everything is good. I would definately buy here again.
