PowerPole® Fuser-6 Fused Connector Box

Video: Fuser 6 Fused PowerPole DC Distribution Unit

The lightest PowerPole® distribution box by far

The SOTABEAMS PowerPole® Fuser-6 makes light work of connecting five accessories to your power source (it has one input and 5 outputs). All the connectors are individually fused. In a typical shack you might have a 100 Watt HF radio, a 50 watt 2m FM radio, an antenna tuner and a QRP rig all connected to your Fuser-6 - and still have a spare connector!

The Fuser-6 is supplied with 3 x 25 Amp and 3 x 5 Amp fuses. Standard automotive blade fuses make replacement easy - these are widely available with values from 1 to 30 Amps. The Fuser-6 incorporates a polarity warning system; lights GREEN for GOOD and RED for REVERSE. This is handy when you have a battery connected to the system to help avoid damage to your equipment if you accidentally get the battery connections wrong (just make sure you connect the battery to the Fuser-6 before connecting any of the equipment - it is only an indicator, not a shut-off!).

Naturally we have designed the Fuser-6 to be light and rugged too. The Fuser-6; at home in the shack or in the field; it's perfect for DX-pedition use. It's already proving popular with Emcoms and RAYNET users. The Fuser-6 is easy to mount at home, just drill and screw through the rear of the box.

The Fuser-6 internal circuitry is rated at 25 Amps (30 Amp surge); no mean feat for a PCB design. To achieve this, we use a PCB with ultrawide copper tracks on both sides of the board, double the normal thickness of copper (most PCBs use 1oz / ft2, the Fuser-6 uses 2oz / ft2), and plated through vias carefully located to ensure an even current distribution between each face of the board.

This is a unit built to a high specification! Of course the Fuser-6 uses genuine Anderson PCB contacts too for lower contact resistance and improved reliability.

The tracks on the bottom of the board are left bare (no solder mask) - this makes it easy for you to solder wires to them, to add extra connectors or extra functionality.

The Fuser-6 is available in three forms.

  • The board kit is great for people making a Go-box and wanting to mount the Fuser-6 as part of their project.

  • The board kit plus enclosure is a nice one-evening project that is suitable for constructors of all ages and abilities.

  • And, of course the Fuser-6 is available built and tested too!

For best results make sure that you use a soldering iron of at least 50 Watts. Additional flux is also helpful to ensure a good result.

What's included?

  • The Board kit consists of:

    • 1 x PCB (2oz copper thickness)

    • 12 x PowerPole® PCB contacts,

    • 6 x red PowerPole® connector shells,

    • 6 x black PowerPole® connector shells,

    • 12 x 30 Amp fuse holder contacts (2 contacts per fuse),

    • 6 x fuses (3 x 25 A, 3 x 5 A)

    • 1 x Polarity indicator (LED and resistor)

    • Download the instructions here

  • Estimated assembly time 40 minutes

  • The Board kit + enclosure kit adds:

    • ABS box,

    • laser-cut and engraved transparent acrylic front panel and;

    • board mounting hardware.

  •  Estimated assembly time (full product) 1 hour 10 minutes

  • Alternatively you can buy the Fuser-6 ready-built and tested.

Note that for best results make sure that you use a soldering iron of at least 50 Watts. Additional flux is also helpful to ensure a good result.

    Quality kit

A good simple construction project using first class components, which does away with that multiplicity of power cables. Quality PCB with excellent engraved top panel.

I received the Kit promptly, all parts were included, and of very good quality. I assembled and tested the Kit in about one hour and thirty minutes( I am a very slow worker). It is a very good product and I will recommend it others.

    PowerPole Fuser-6 Fused Connector Box

Posted by Edd M6FFE on 22nd Feb 2016

Smart and sturdy connector box. Pretty easy to assemble, just make sure your iron is hot because the board soaks the heat up. Good thing really as it proves it will handle the amps. Instead of spaghetti cable from the transformer its now all nice and tidy.

    Excellent Product

This is a great kit. It has been well engineered, to deliver a robust solution, for your Anderson power pole connections. It is light enough to include for field trips, or equally at home in the shack. All parts are supplied, all panels punched, and only requires solder, and an iron, to complete. Very happy with this product.

    Just the job!

Under estimated the number of 12V accessories I have! This fits the bill perfectly. Quality PCB and engraved top cover for a professional finish. Richard made sure of a speedy despatch (and later, a spare top cover due to my heavy handed assembly :( MI0AYR

I have had two the four pole version for a while, one for my bench and one for when I am camping. I am always looking for extra connections when at home testing or working a new project but now this will become my bench supply. Well done guys for another excellent product.

    Just what I wanted

Posted by Andy on 1st Nov 2015

Excellent piece of kit with Sotabeams hallmark quality and functionality throughout. I bought the kit and enclosure and put it together with minimum of fuss and no issues. I have modded it slightly with flying leads soldered direct to the board to give 6 outputs. Well worth the money.

    Super Product

Posted by David G4NRT on 29th Oct 2015

Another very well designed and built product from SOTABEAMS. Every shack should by now have changed to Powerpole connectors and will need this super, fused connection box. Highly recommended and much cheaper than its US-made equivalent.
